Weekend Almost Over

Well the weekend was way to short. We had a beautiful day here yesterday. It's cooled down quite a bit today and more like autumn. I had a big game plan for all of the things that were going to get done but I'm still way behind. Two weeks of that nasty flu has really put me behind.

Now here's my little Sugar, when ever she sees the camera she's right there to make sure she gets in the picture. She is such a sweetie.

The crepe myrtle is showing a little bit of color.
I made this and put it up on my brothers tree. Actually it's the tree across the street right by where he was attacked. I've kept something on the tree as a memorial to him. This week the red, white and blue flowers and ribbon came down and I replaced it with this. He loved the holidays and all of the decorating I did. Miss you Brother!

And Halloween is almost here. I have so much left that I need to get done. It will be a busy week for me. Have a good week everyone and enjoy autumn, it is so beautiful.

A little Antiquing and the Flu

Well it's been a rainy, cold week here and to top that off I've had some sort of a flu bug. I managed to make it to work everyday, get home and take care of the brats and then to bed. I really have only a thousand things that I need and want to do but this is a tough bug. However, I managed to get up early yesterday and hit some yard sales and boy was it worth the cold and damp. I'm posting just a few of my finds and hopefully as the week passes I can get caught up and post some more pictures. Below in the back corner is a wonderful old primitive berry picking, carrying tray. I just fell in love with it.
You can see it a little better here and in front is an antique basket that I found, the flash takes away from the really warm primitive patina of the basket.
I also picked up this little tea pot. It will be a favorite for a long time.

Then I found this smaller basket. Just a few weeks ago I was complaining that I never find the great old baskets that I used too; well it looks like I was wrong and for once I am sooo glad I was wrong.

I couldn't pass up this little dolly, she's a topsey-turvey.

And this little girl just tucked right into the side of the old shelf.

The brats also got a new toy. It's called a nap & play and so far they have played, jumped, pounced, flipped and about everything except napped in it. When is nap time? I could use one. Have a great week and please stay away from the flu. I hope to post more of my weekend treasures soon.
Bright blessings.

Things I made & the Boy

I just had to post one more picture of this child. We are calling him Windsor since that is where we believe he lived. Can you see those pale blue eyes? The light makes it appear brighter than it is but even in the best light this little child is so pale, he seems fragile in a way.

Now when I started this blog I really thought that by now I would be posting lots of the sewing and crafting and designing that I love to do. Unfortunately that all changed. The department that I work in has downsized from seven people to three. The work load hasn't changed; we still have the same number of clients so this means the three of us are now doing the work of seven. I really am grateful because I could have been one of the four people that no longer have a job but by the time I get home I just haven't the energy to put into the things that I love to do. So I did post a few pictures of some things that I've made.

This little pumpkin is made from cloth and painted and crubbied up. I have some beautiful antique orange velvet that I will make a pumpkin from this year if it takes me till Christmas.
This is a quilt that I made a few years ago. It's hand pieced, all the appliques are done by hand and hand quilted. I really love quilting. Sorry I posted the same picture twice again (still can't figure out how to take em off when I do that.

These are paper mache pumpkins that I buy at Micheal's. I just paint and age them. It's so easy so I have about 10 more that I'll get done this week. (maybe)
.
And finally yesterday I tried my hand at making an old grubby jar. I didn't have a recipe so I made up my own brew to do this and it turned OK for a first try. I wish the pictures were better because I really was pleased with the way it turned out. This one I made for a joke at work and everyone loved it. On the label it says, Laudanum ( this was a pain medicine in the 1800's but it was sometimes prescribed for women just so their husbands could control them. 90 % opium and 10% morphine)- for women's complaints. A guaranteed remedy to cure all afflictions prone to affect the frail and delicate female sex.

I plan to make three of these for Halloween, I'd better get busy. I'll try to get a better picture of those when I finish them. Have a great week.
